Missouri Licensure and LARE Resources & FAQ

  • APEPLSPLA

    The Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects (APEPLSPLA) board is where you will apply for, renew, and update your state license.   • CLARB

    The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) prepares, administers, and scores the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.). They also manage the CLARB Council Record system which manages education, experience, examination results, and licensure history.   • How do you register for the exam?

    You need a CLARB council record to register for the exam. Examinees must schedule their exam time through the CLARB website.

  • When can I take the exam?

    The LARE is offered three times a year in April, August, and December. Visit the CLARB website to schedule your exam.

  • How much does the LARE cost?

    There are four sections of the LARE. Section 1 (Project and Construction Management) & Section 2 (Inventory and Analysis) are each $375. Section 3 (Design) & Section 4 (Grading, Drainage and Construction Documentation) are each $590 as of May 2022.

  • How many years of professional experience practicing landscape architecture is required?

    In the state of Missouri, three years of professional experience is required. This does not have to be completed before taking the LARE exams. This experience can be verified and documented through CLARB.

  • What are the Missouri CEU requirements?

    Licensees must complete 24 continuing education credits (CEUs) within two years of their renewal date. At least 16 of these CEUs must be related to health, safety, and welfare (HSW).

  • How often are you required to renew your license?

    Licenses are renewed every two years by December 31st. New licensees will need to renew the same year they initially were licensed.
