Advocacy Day 2024

Advocacy Day - March 5, 2024 - Missouri State Capitol

Advocating for You!  Advocacy Day 2024

On March 5, 2024, eleven practitioners from St. Louis Chapter and Prairie Gateway Chapter ASLA walked the halls of the Missouri State Capitol to share personal stories of the landscape architecture profession and the necessity of licensure to maintain the current high level of public health, safety, and welfare protection.

We welcomed our new lobbyist firm, BHL to our planning process for advocacy day.  They stopped by the event to discuss the bills of concern and set the tone for conversations with representatives.  Modifications and trends to affect professional licensure requirements continue and continuous advocacy is critical to licensure retention.

The advocacy teams were able to have in-depth conversations that informed the representatives about HB2099, HB1062 and SB817.  These bills create a path to licensure via work experience.  Advocates asked representatives to oppose these bills as they will serve to lower the standard of practice that currently exists.  A total of thirty representatives were visited, not counting those that stopped by the table.

Grass roots personal relationships have proven to be critical in defense of licensure and provide a positive, pro-active opportunity to educate.  This has been especially important because most Professional Licensure Committee members are new to the committee this year.  Advocacy efforts are key to the retention of licensure in Missouri.  Advocacy 2024 was another great event and united landscape architects across the state.  Thank you to all and congratulations on a job well done!

Many thanks to all of the advocates that donated their time and energy to defend licensure. Their advocacy protects licensure which allows all practitioners to work throughout the United States.
