Hoerr Schaudt is seeking talented, motivated, and energetic individuals with 2 to 6 years’ experience to join our growing Kansas City studio.

We seek individuals with strong design and graphic skills who are enthusiastic about the design of the public realm. The ideal candidates should be efficient, well organized, detail-oriented, and interested in all aspects of the landscape architecture design profession. As an interdisciplinary practice that emphasizes horticulturally rich design across diverse project types and scales, the landscape architect/designer role involves collaboration with our planting design and construction administration studios. The position also includes exposure and coordination with design collaborators and subconsultants. We are looking for someone who is nimble, efficient, and adaptable to evolving efforts and changing priorities.

Our Kansas City Studio is actively working on exciting large-scale civic projects across the country, such as the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Wichita’s Exploration Place Destination Playscape, and St. Louis’ Forest Park Steinberg Ice Rink Plaza and Pavilion. The 9-acre Atlanta Botanical Garden Expansion, connected to the Atlanta Beltline, features grand garden rooms terraced into the Piedmont landscape. The project includes spaces like a water labyrinth, amphitheater, walled display garden with a braided water channel, and a lower terraced water garden with planted islands. Wichita’s Exploration Place Park showcases ten distinct play areas celebrating regional ecologies and histories, including an Aviation Play Grove, Water Play Cascade, and a festival plaza with whirling jets carved into a prairie hillside.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate demonstrates ability to integrate design ideas and think critically; team collaboration - an interest in learning the craft of place-making; the development of construction documents and participation in construction administration. Demonstrated experience with site construction documentation is a plus. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino is required, and experience with other 3D modeling software and associated plug-ins is welcomed. Consistent collaboration and communication within our team, across studios, and with design partners are essential aspects of this role. The candidate should proactively engage with mentors, conduct in-depth material and technical research, and excel in problem-solving; capable of both hand sketching and rendering and graphic communication. Seasonal Community Outreach Advisor

Position Description:

The Community Outreach Advisor (COA) is a part-time, remote position that reports to the Regional Director of the geographic area they are assigned. As a supporting member of the Field Team, COA’s work in partnership with the Regional Field Specialists and other stakeholders to help secure host family and school placements for incoming international exchange students. This role will assist the Regional Field Specialist (RFS) staff in lead generation, recruitment, screening, and monitoring host family applications as well as processes, paperwork, and data entry that supports the hosting recruitment effort to achieve measurable qualitative and quantitative goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Research and identify community-based organizations, special interest groups, businesses, and/or individuals that may be interested in partnering to promote AFS, particularly the hosting program and volunteer opportunities. Create social media content and promotional materials for volunteers and staff to use in the recruitment of Host Families Assist with the development and/or implementation of recruitment strategies in high-priority target areas. Additional research will be conducted on state vaccination and quarantine requirements. Support the Regional Field Specialist efforts to finalize host family placements by assisting with paperwork, data entry, phone calls, and other duties as assigned. Support the planning and implementation of volunteer-led community events, tabling, and targeted individual outreach and engagement. Maintain strict adherence to US Department of State regulations, as well as CSIET and AFS standards and guidelines.

WORK CONDITIONS: The Seasonal Community Outreach Advisor works remotely during the regular business hours of Monday - Friday, 9AM - 5PM EST. The position of Seasonal Community Outreach Advisor is part-time, 19 hours per week. Community Outreach Advisors may work outside regular business hours dependent on the needs of the department. Community Outreach Advisors may be asked to travel to and participate in tabling events in nearby communities and/or Area Team events with AFS Volunteers. The scheduled duration of this position is April 2024 through September 2024. Applicants must commit to the full duration of the position.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Compensation: $18/hour, no benefits, non-negotiable.
